Bring Your Own Material Policy

TechLab offers users to bring their own materials for FDM and SLA 3D printing.

Visitors to TechLab may want to print in materials outstide of what we currently offer. To support these users, we offer users the ability to bring in their own materials to use with our  Prusa FDM printers and FormLabs Form 3 SLA printers. Printing with user-supplied materials at TechLab is free.

Supported Materials for FDM Printing

  • PLA (including PLA Plus and “silk” PLA)
  • PET-G
  • ASA
  • PVA (Water soluble support filament)

Supported Materials for SLA Printing

If you are using any materials for resin printing, you must also supply a Form 3 resin tank for use with each of your materials.

  

Bring Your Own Material Printing Process

To print in your user-supplied material at TechLab, please follow these steps.

  1. Check that your material is supported from the above list. If you have any questions about supported matierals, please email sdl@emory.edu.
  2. Label your materials with the following information:
    • Name
    • Date
    • Material name/ type
      Pre-printed labels are available from TechLab staff.
  3. Drop off your materials with TechLab staff at the time of your print submission.
  4. Pick up your materials with your finished prints. TechLab does not offer extended storage of materials.
